Current Status of California Magazine Possession Laws
Current Status: People in California may not purchase, import, manufacture, or otherwise acquire magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. Magazines that residents legally owned in California prior to the law are still legal to own.
4/22/2026: The case has been distributed for conference at SCOTUS at least 10 times with the court taking no action. The case is still pending a decision whether the court will hear the case.
8/15/2025: CRPA filed its Petition for Writ of Certiorari to the United States Supreme Court
4/10/2025: 9th Circuit partially stays its decision, pending filing a Petition for Writ of Certiorari in the United States Supreme Court
3/20/2025: 9th Circuit En Banc Panel issues its published opinion, upholding CA magazine ban law
10/10/2023: 9th Circuit issues partial stay pending final disposition
9/22/2023: Federal District Court issues its opinion, declaring Penal Code section 32310 "unconstitutional in its entirety."
